I’d not been to Croatia before and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. However, my opinion began to change, for the better, before I even landed as flying over the Adriatic sea at sunset was absolutely breathtaking. I could not wait for my first Croatia sea swimming experience!
Krapanj Island, Northern Dalmatia
These beautiful sunsets were something I was going to be treated to every day of my trip. I’d been told a bit about the island of Krapanj before arriving but hearing about it was nothing compared to experiencing it.
Krapanj is one of the lowest inhabited islands in Croatia and you can swim off any at any point! The island’s surface height is around 1.25 meters above sea level. There are no cars allowed on the island and you see are walkers, boats, and some do cycling.
The blue sky, hot sun, and crystal-clear Adriatic water made this feel truly like a holiday escape from the UK. A creature of habit, I quickly fell into a routine of enjoying caffè lattes each morning at Porat coffee soaking up the sun.
Eating out – island restaurants
The island has several places to eat and drink and I enjoyed all of them. A special shout out to Pizzeria Galeb which was hands down my favorite. Nothing beats a delicious pizza after a day of swimming! Beyond the pizza and coffee latte, the real treat of Krapanj was its location.
It’s surrounded by a host of other islands that are largely uninhabited and I can’t overstate just how stunning the water is between them. It’s warm, clear, and perfect for open water swimming!
Krka National Park
The island is well placed for other experiences Croatia has to offer such as visiting the towns of Sibenik and Skradin. Not far from there is Krka national park, which I would highly recommend! We went for a day swimming at the Krka river waterfalls and it was magical.
Relaxing environment for sunsets
Krapanj also has a path leading around the whole island. There are benches to sit which make the perfect spots for taking time to truly relax and enjoy the previously mentioned sunsets.
My week in Croatia was easily one of the best holidays of my life. The islands, the sun, the people and most of all the swimming made this an unforgettable trip.
If you have a chance to travel and experience this small paradise in Croatia, I am sure you will not regret it.
